Guilty, Not Guilty

“Suspicion always haunts the guilty mind”. William Shakespeare

“I am frivolous. Then I feel guilty”. Catherine Deneuve

Guilt is the state of being responsible for the commission of an offense. It is also a cognitive or an emotional experience that occurs when a person realizes or believes—accurately or not—that he or she has violated a moral standard, and bears significant responsibility for that violation. It is closely related to the concept of remorse.

“I don’t want to forgive myself. That’s why I hate psychoanalysis I think if you’re guilty of something you should live with it. Get rid of it – how can you get rid of a real guilt? I think people should live with it, face up to it”. Orson Welles

“A guilty conscience needs to confess. A work of art is a confession”. Albert Camus

“Where guilt is, rage and courage both abound”. Ben Jonson, Sejanus His Fall (1602).

“Passion is the evil in adultery. If a man has no opportunity of living with another man’s wife, but if it is obvious for some reason that he would like to do so, and would do so if he could, he is no less guilty than if he was caught in the act”. Saint Augustine

“A young bride is like a plucked flower; but a guilty wife is like a flower that had been walked over”. Honore de Balzac

“When it comes to gossip, I have to readily admit men are as guilty as women”. Marilyn Monroe

“Every man is guilty of all the good he did not do”. Voltaire

“Sadly, we do a much better job of making people feel guilty than we do of delivering them from the guilt we create. We need to confess this and change our ways”. Tony Campolo

“The media’s the most powerful entity on earth. They have the power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty innocent, and that’s power. Because they control the minds of the masses”. Malcolm X

“Youth cannot know how age thinks and feels. But old men are guilty if they forget what it was to be young”. J. K. Rowling

“Sometimes you can’t prioritise family and you feel guilty”. Adam Sandler

“I refuse to feel guilty. I feel guilty about too much in my life but not about money. I went through periods when I had nothing, so somebody in my family has to get stinkin’ wealthy”. Jim Carrey
