“Under Charlie’s Angels Spell…”‏

“You have to be reasonable with yourself and not feel guilty when things aren’t perfect”. Jaclyn Smith

Once upon a time, there were three very different little girls… who grew up to be three very different women. But they have three things in common: They’re brilliant, they’re beautiful and they work for me. My name is Charlie”.

Charlie’s Angels is an American crime drama television series that aired on ABC from September 22, 1976 to June 24, 1981, producing five seasons and 110 episodes.

“You can’t predict a show, that is the damndest thing, you can’t predict if a show is going to work or not until it’s on the air”. Aaron Spelling

The series was created by Ivan Goff and Ben Roberts and was produced by Aaron Spelling. It plots the adventures of three females working in a private detective agency in Los Angeles, California, and initially starred Kate Jackson, Farrah Fawcett-Majors, and Jaclyn Smith in the leading roles, with David Doyle co-starring as a sidekick to the three women and John Forsythe providing the voice of their boss. Later additions to the cast were Cheryl Ladd, Shelley Hack, and Tanya Roberts.

Ivan Goff and Ben Roberts came up with the idea for a series about three beautiful female private investigators as a breakthrough but also escapist television series. Producers Aaron Spelling and Leonard Goldberg first considered actress Kate Jackson during the early pre-production stages of the series. She had proven popular with viewers in another police television drama, The Rookies.

“I’d rather share the glory of a hit than star by myself in a flop”. Kate Jackson

Jackson was initially cast as Kelly Garrett, but was more attracted to the role of Sabrina Duncan, and her request to switch roles was granted

“Sometimes the better an actor is, the less he’s noticed”. Kate Jackson

Farrah Fawcett-Majors was next cast as Jill Munroe, but much like Jackson, did not audition for a role. She was offered a part by Spelling after he had viewed her performance in the science-fiction film Logan’s Run (1976).

“I don’t think an actor ever wants to establish an image. That certainly hurt me, and yet that is also what made me successful and eventually able to do more challenging roles”. Farrah Fawcett

“God gave women intuition and femininity. Used properly, the combination easily jumbles the brain of any man I’ve ever met”. Farrah Fawcett

“Marriages that last are with people who do not live in Los Angeles”. Farrah Fawcett

Jaclyn Smith was among the hundreds of actresses who auditioned for the role of Kelly Garrett. Despite liking Smith, Spelling and Goldberg were weary at hiring her, because the initial concept surrounding a brunette, blonde, and red-headed woman. Smith was the only brunette that auditioned for the role and was cast only after producers liked the on-screen chemistry she shared with Jackson and Fawcett-Majors.

“I have had to learn about saying no”. Jaclyn Smith

“After having children, life becomes about living beyond yourself; about being bigger and better”. Jaclyn Smith

Aaron Spelling

“I love my wife, she deserves anything and everything”. Aaron Spelling

“Aaron Spelling always had his finger on the pulse of pop culture, he knew what the public wanted to see. He was one of the most loyal men in this business and believed in me at a time in my career when no one else would”. Alyssa Milano

Aaron Spelling (April 22, 1923 – June 23, 2006) was an American film and television producer. As of 2009, Spelling’s eponymous production company Spelling Television holds the record as the most prolific television writer, with 218 producer and executive producer credits

At the age of eight, Spelling psychosomatically lost the use of his legs due to trauma caused by constant bullying from his schoolmates, and was confined to bed for a year. After attending Forest Avenue High School, he served in the United States Armed Forces during World War II. He later graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1949. He married actress Carolyn Jones in 1953, in California. They divorced in 1964. Spelling married Candy Gene in 1968. The couple had daughter Tori in 1973 and son Randy in 1978.

“There are a couple of things that I’m sure people don’t think are important, but I do. I don’t like hair changes unless there’s a reason for it. Clothing – I don’t like to see an outfit worn more than one time in an hour – you can wear it again a few weeks later”. Aaron Spelling

“Nowadays, people always say, how come he’s doing such young shows? But they never mention The Mod Squad. I was very proud of that show. It’s the first time an African-American guy kissed a white girl”. Aaron Spelling

“When we did Dynasty, it was the clothes. I think the clothes affected every woman around the world. I got so many letters, I think we made the designer a millionaire!” Aaron Spelling

“Aaron Spelling went further than anyone has ever gone for television”. Linda Evans

“I hate remakes of TV shows – I didn’t like the new Charlie’s Angels at all – and I just don’t see the point of going back and doing the same thing over again. Baywatch was fun and successful, probably because we didn’t know what the heck we were doing”. Pamela Anderson
